Profile:
Judith A. Starkey
She began her career in broadcasting at the CBS networks (including CBS News) in New York City, followed by Radio Free Europe (now RFE/RL) in Munich, Germany. She then moved into human resources, where she gained industrial management experience at Chemetron Corporation's multinational diversified manufacturing operations (including as Equal Employment Opportunity director), followed by a major oil company's domestic and international subsidiaries, where she taught a full curriculum of management development. To apply these experiences Judith founded The Starkey Group, Inc. (100% woman-owned), where she provides multicultural strategies and skills via keynotes, seminars, training, consulting, coaching and products. Particular areas of expertise are strategic needs assessment, interpersonal relations in a multicultural environment (including individual counseling/training) and interviewing (selection interviews and focus groups). Additional aspects, such as sexual harassment and its connection to the cultures of gender, as well as generational issues (X/Y to seniors), are addressed as needed. In all her programs management development concepts in the multicultural context are applied where appropriate. Her popular book, Multicultural Communication Strategies, incorporates the influences of ethnicity, age, gender and geography. Proven strategies and examples are supplied, including sales and customer relations applications. Judith A. Starkey is interviewed periodically on radio and television. Her articles and quotations have appeared in many national publications (see Articles), and have been requested for the International Business MBA Executive Program of Rai University, rated India's "best private university," as well as the College of DuPage's library science program. She is a regular contributing author to Managing Diversity, as well as Editor of Multicultural Moments. Judith has been recommended by the national Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird), and has been listed in various biographical publications, including The International Directory of Distinguished Leadership and Who's Who of American Women. She participated in the MBA Executive Program at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, holds a PhB degree from Northwestern University and has completed extensive studies in Radio and Television at Indiana University. Her professional affiliations include: the Midwest Society of Professional Consultants (past President and recipient of the prestigious Eagle Award for "outstanding skills in professional consulting"); the American Society for Training and Development; and was a founding member of the Chicago chapter of The International Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR), and presented at their Global Congress in Granada, Spain. She has also been on four different Boards of Directors of the National Speakers Association's Illinois chapter and was Director of their Candidate University (now named Speaker University).
